Stale newspapers,
Dysfunctional taps,
Chipped vases,
Broken bed.

Rusted railing,
Croaky fans,
Blinking bulbs,
Cracked food pan.

And amongst it all,
She-
the only
functional utility.

Till-in -action,
In the groove,
Till she greases
and reproduced.

Till she complies,
unless she thinks,
Until is functional,
Till metal mints.

*

Once she ceases
To be it all.
A wasted commodity
what a downfall!

*

A rusted nut,
A crumbling cookie,
She is a waste
with no utility!

*

Dispose please
With the rest…

That’s her fate
that’s how it works!

*

Stale newspapers,
Dysfunctional taps,
Chipped vases,
Broken bed.

Rusted railing,
Croaky fans,
Blinking bulbs,
Cracked food pan.

And amongst it all,
She-
with an expiry date,
stamped over all!

  1. Hey Saurabh, Its good to have you back on my blog.

Yes,this train of thought is an observation of apathy shown towards women in India . I didnt want to put any explaination to it ,so it remains a train of thoughts, unanswered ,unattended….. .

  2. Was this train of thought fueled by some event or was it written for the sake of verse? The poem is like a part of a bigger picture, complete onto itself but with jagged edges waiting to link with the parts it belonged to. If only, you’d put a paragraph explaining the thought process behind this work, it would make the work complete. Good to see you write something dark.
